Chase, John W. "Yours For The Union": The Civil War Letters of John W. Chase, First Massachusetts Light Artillery. [Edited by Collier, John S. & Bonnie B.] New York, NY: Fordham University Press, 2004. 464 p.

In a letter written September 26, 1864, Chase writes, "Well I suppose this Battery will be smashed the 3d of next month and the men are to go to the ninth Mass Capt Bigelow." He wasn't very happy about the reassignment. Chase was assigned to the 9th Battery Mass. Vols. on February 17, 1865 and arrived on February 24. The 1st Mass. Battery soldiers didn't get offically transferred until March 1865. There are 8 letters written while in the 9th Battery Mass. Vols. plus some other earlier references to being transferred to the 9th.

Pennsylvania Cable Network, "9th Massachusetts Battery, The- 2004 - Day 2", Tour Guide: Wayne Wachsmuth, Length: 01:06:33, Year Taped: 2004.

A pretty good telling of the action Bigelow's Battery saw that day. Filmed on the field of action. Mr. Wachsmuth states a couple of things wrong, but those were secondary to the story.

Kraus, Michael and David M. Neville. "Horses of Gettysburg". DVD. Pittsburgh, PA: Inecom Entertainment, Inc., 2006.

This 2 DVD set covers a lot of great material, and of special interest is the Civil War Minute titled "Bigelow's Stand". And even better is a 45-minute documentary with Eric Campbell titled "Bigelow's Stand and Charles Wellington Reed". Campbell does an excellent job explaining the action the 9th Battery Mass. Vols. were involved in during the second day. He also covers a lot of material on the relationship between Bigelow and Reed.
